French and American husband and wife team, François and Emmi Micallef opened Pavé in 2000. Born and raised in the South of France, François' direct relationships in France allow Pavé to obtain the highest quality terra cotta tiles and wide French Oak planks. In their Massachusetts facility, they use these raw European building materials as their canvas to create old world terra cotta and French oak flooring. From designing, glazing and kiln-firing the terra cotta tiles to aging and pre-finishing the wide French oak planks, Pavé creates one-of-a kind vintage wood and terra cotta tile floor and wall tiles that mixes beautifully with modern decor. Based on relationships throughout France, François also imports the highest quality French limestone pavers and Reclaimed Dalle de Bourgogne French Limestone floor tiles and wall cladding.
With a strong understanding of what Pavé represents to them, they remain true in creating collections based on the European aesthetic. For their hand made tile collections, they use only the best hand made European terra cotta tile upon which they create in the US their signature terra cotta tile lines from original designs by Emmi Micallef. Understanding that classics will withstand trends, Emmi focuses her passion on 14th-17th century European and Moorish patterns that mix beautifully with vintage and industrial to contemporary decor. Expanding into wide-plank oak flooring arrived after many years of research when François developed techniques that mimic wood floors from 18th century France. As well, born in the South of France, Francois' contacts allow him those important relationships to import remarkable French limestone flooring, breathtaking in patina and soft color palettes. Pavé, continually evolving, will open a by appointment only showroom in Spring 2015 as well as opening a new division of Pavé called Historic Decorative Tile in late early Winter 2015.
